Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 29, 2026

Monkly ("we", "our", or "us") respects your privacy. This policy explains what information the Monkly app collects, how it is used, who processes it, and the choices you have. By using Monkly you agree to the practices described here.

1. Summary

Monkly has no user accounts and never asks you to create one with a name, email, or password. Most of your content stays on your device. We use a small number of trusted third-party services for anonymous product analytics, crash reporting, and subscription management. We do not sell your data, we do not use advertising identifiers, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

2. Information Stored Only on Your Device

The following is stored locally on your iPhone (using iOS UserDefaults and the local file system) and is not transmitted to us:

This local data is included in your device's standard iCloud/iTunes backup per Apple's normal backup behavior, and is removed when you delete the app.

3. Information Processed by Third-Party Services

To operate and improve the app, we use the following processors. Each receives only the data described and acts on our behalf:

Product analytics — PostHog. We collect anonymous usage and event data to understand how the app is used and improve it. This includes events such as app opens, screens viewed, onboarding progress, book imports, reading sessions (pages and minutes — never the text you read), unlocks, and subscription events, plus aggregate counts such as number of books and reading streaks. It also includes selected onboarding survey responses such as age range, goals, and reading habits — but not your name. This data is linked to a random identifier generated for your install, not to your real-world identity, and is processed on servers in the United States. You can turn analytics off at any time in Settings → Share analytics.

Crash & performance reporting — Sentry. If the app crashes or runs into performance issues, we collect diagnostic data such as crash stack traces, device model, operating-system version, and limited performance metrics, tied to a random identifier. We have configured Sentry not to collect your IP address. This data is processed on servers in the United States and helps us fix bugs and keep the app stable.

Subscriptions — RevenueCat & Apple. Purchases are processed by Apple through your App Store account; we never receive your payment-card details. We use RevenueCat to manage and validate subscriptions. RevenueCat processes your App Store transaction information, subscription status, purchase history, country, and device information, associated with a random identifier. See "Subscriptions" in our Terms of Use for the subscription terms.

4. What We Do Not Do

5. Screen Time & Family Controls

Monkly uses Apple's Screen Time API (the FamilyControls framework) to apply the app restrictions you configure. This requires your explicit authorization and is used only to enforce your blocking schedule on your own device. The specific apps you choose to block are represented by opaque tokens provided by iOS that we cannot read or transmit. We never access your Screen Time reports, usage history, or data about other people's devices.

6. Your Rights

Depending on where you live (for example, under the GDPR or CCPA), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete personal data and to object to or restrict certain processing. Because analytics and crash data are tied to a random identifier rather than your identity, we may be unable to locate data about a specific individual, but we will assist where we can. To make a request, contact us at the address below. You can also disable analytics in Settings → Share analytics, and you can stop all collection by deleting the app.

7. Data Retention

Data stored on your device remains until you delete it or remove the app. Data held by our processors is retained according to our configured limits and their respective policies. You may contact us to request deletion.

8. International Transfers

Our processors store and process data on servers located in the United States. By using the app, you understand that your information may be processed in the United States and other countries where our processors operate.

9. Third-Party Privacy Policies

10. Children's Privacy

Monkly is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will address it.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. We will revise the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
